Frequently asked questions

Booking, what a first lesson is like, private versus shared, what it costs, where we meet, and renting a board without a lesson.

Frequently asked questions

  • How do I book a lesson?

Message us on WhatsApp at +506 8385 6517 and tell us the day you want and how many of you there are. You are writing to the people who will be in the water with you, not to a booking platform, so we can tell you straight away whether that day works.

  • I have never surfed before. Is that a problem?

No. We teach every age and every level, and a first lesson starts on the sand with the pop-up before anybody goes near the water. Every coach here is local, certified and lifeguard-trained.

  • Should I take a private lesson or a shared one?

A private lesson means the whole session is about what you are doing, which is the fastest way to progress. A shared lesson splits a coach between you and whoever you came with. Either way we never take big groups, so somebody is always with you in the water.

  • What does a lesson cost?

We quote it when you write, because it depends on whether the lesson is private or shared, how many of you there are and whether you need a board. Message us on WhatsApp and you will have a price back from us, not from a platform adding its commission on top.

  • Where do we meet?

At the DELMAR surf shop in Santa Teresa — the map and the directions link are on the contact page. If your lesson is a surf trip to Playa Hermosa or Cabuya we will sort the meeting point out with you on WhatsApp beforehand.

  • Can I just rent a board without a lesson?

Yes. We rent boards out of the shop by the day or by the week, and you can swap as you improve. We rent bikes too, which in Santa Teresa is the difference between seeing the town and walking a dirt road in the sun.

  • Where do the surf trips go?

Around the area: Santa Teresa itself, up to Playa Hermosa, and down to Cabuya. Which one we go to depends on what is working that morning, which is the whole point of going.
